Stuff Report: A glaring mismatch between planning and execution—and ordinary people are paying the price. Serious allegations have emerged against a few so-called local leaders in the Uttar Maharani Gram Panchayat area of Udaipur, where a newly constructed road was dug up with a dredger within just five days to build a drain.
Public outraged over allegations of negligence and corruption in government-funded work.
According to complaints, the road—constructed by the Public Works Department to be suitable for fire service movement—was suddenly cut and narrowed overnight. Not only that, the drinking water pipeline was also damaged during the process, leaving the area without water supply for the past 10 days.
The most serious allegation is that the entire work was carried out in complete violation of Gram Panchayat rules and technical guidelines. Where was the responsible engineer? Why was there no supervision at the work site? These questions are now being raised by local residents.
Sources claim that although funds were allocated for labor-based work, a dredger was used instead, raising allegations of misappropriation of funds meant for workers.
Residents allege that the drain construction is being done without any scientific planning, which may create severe problems in future for repairing or installing drinking water pipelines. Moreover, due to the narrowing of the road in this densely populated area, it may become nearly impossible for fire services or emergency vehicles to reach in case of an emergency—raising fears of a major disaster.
The allegations are directed at two recently influential local leaders. Despite informing the BDO of Matabari Block and the responsible engineer, why is such irregularity continuing under their watch? In whose interest is this misuse of public funds?
Locals are reportedly afraid to speak out, alleging threats and verbal abuse from certain influential leaders.

The question remains— Is this government project meant for public welfare, or just to fill the pockets of a few “petty leaders”?
Now it remains to be seen whether the administration takes action on these serious allegations or if the matter will once again be swept under the rug.
In Uttar Maharani Gram Panchayat of Udaipur, reckless irregularities in the name of development have sparked outrage among residents. Over 150 families are affected, and anger is mounting after a newly constructed road was dug up within days for drain construction.
Residents clearly state that the blame does not lie directly with the BDO or the engineer, but with certain influential leaders who are allegedly pushing for unplanned work for personal gain.
According to locals, the road was cut and narrowed immediately after construction, which will severely affect the movement of large vehicles, especially fire services and emergency response units.
The area also has a temple and a mosque with daily footfall, and the poor condition of the road may disrupt religious and social activities.
Most concerningly, the drinking water pipeline has already been damaged, depriving many families of basic water supply.
Residents demand: “To stop this corruption, the Block BDO must take strict and immediate action. Otherwise, such irregularities will never end.”
The matter has also been brought to the attention of the District Magistrate.
