Duranta TV, 11 May 2026: A serious controversy has surfaced surrounding TCS officer Akhinchan Sarkar and his wife Sarmistha Ghosh. Allegations have emerged that their names reportedly appear in the voter lists of both Shantirbazar Assembly Constituency and Town Bordowali Assembly Constituency. Even more seriously, allegations claim that votes may have been cast in both constituencies.

If proven true, this would not merely be an administrative irregularity — it would amount to a direct assault on the integrity of the democratic system.
Sections 17 and 18 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 clearly prohibit a person from being enrolled in more than one electoral constituency. Furthermore, voting in multiple constituencies may constitute an electoral offence under Indian law.
Questions are now being raised across administrative and public circles: When ordinary citizens face strict scrutiny even for minor documentation errors, why is there apparent silence when such grave allegations emerge against a senior government official and his spouse?

Akhinchan Sarkar has reportedly held influential positions within the administration for years. Allegations are now surfacing regarding how he has continued within the same sphere of influence since 2011. Is there an invisible shield of protection operating within the administrative system?
Further questions are also being raised regarding past allegations linked to land-related controversies in Unakoti district. Despite repeated discussions surrounding those allegations, how was he entrusted with responsibilities in a highly sensitive department such as Finance? Were those allegations ever subjected to an impartial inquiry?
In a democracy, the law is expected to apply equally to all citizens. But when the perception grows that ordinary people are governed by one set of rules while influential officials operate under another, the credibility of the administration itself comes under serious question.
The public is now asking: Will the Election Commission and the concerned authorities conduct a fair and transparent investigation into these allegations, or will silence once again prevail under the shadow of power and influence?
